Third Divorce for Charlie Sheen

A petition for divorce was filed for the third time in fifteen years by American actor Charlie Sheen who became popular in the mid-80’s with hit films like Platoon, Wall Street and Major League.  Meanwhile, his wife Brooke Mueller also filed a separate petition within the same day that he did on November 1, 2010.  They have different terms for the divorce.  Charlie wanted joint custody of their twin sons but asked the judge that his wife should not be granted spousal support.  Brooke on the other hand filed for sole custody of their children with petition for spousal support.

Charlie Sheen used irreconcilable differences as ground for the divorce.   Court filings show that the couple both referred to Christmas of 2009 as the start date of their separation, just one-and-a-half year of marriage.  They had a heated argument that ended with physical confrontation – an allegation that Charlie denied at first but later admitted through a guilty plea in August this year.

Among Charlie’s failed relationships, his second marriage with actress Denise Richards with whom he had two daughters was the longest at four years.  Denise was pregnant with their second child when she demanded for divorce on grounds of drug and alcohol abuse and threat of violence.

He was already in his 30s when he first married.  His first wife was Donna Peele.  Before this short-lived 14-month marriage, he was already known to have a five year old daughter from another girlfriend as well as a failed engagement with Kelly Preston whom he shot accidentally in the arm.

Despite these negative publicities, his career did not suffer.  Indeed, one cannot put a good actor down.  In fact, Charlie Sheen’s contract for the television sitcom “Two and a Half Men” was renewed for two more years with allegedly $1.88 million paycheck per episode – a sign that a celebrity’s personal life need not affect his career.
