Sorcerer’s Apprentice: Not too Impressive

Everyone is talking about how lame the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” movie has been. Most of the people who watched this movie have been very disappointed with what they have witnessed. Most of them say that it’s not even worth watching.  In all fairness to Jerry Bruckheimer’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I would say that although it failed to meet my expectations, there are some aspects of it that is quite well.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, from Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer, is an interesting take on to one of Fantasia’s most beloved sequences.  However, the movie is quite predictable and some of the actor’s performances are a bit flat and unsatisfactory. When you watch a movie, it is normal for you to expect for something special and a way remembering and there’s nothing magical and special with this movie. It is so plain and unsurprising.

The story is about a child named Dave Cherry who made a letter to his ultimate crush in 4th grade named Becky. The letter slipped through him and he apparently chases it through the streets of New York and leads him to Balthazar. Balthazar is the third sorcerer’s apprentice that is responsible for finding and training the Prime Merlinian to defeat Morgana and Horvath, the sorcerer’s apprentice who betrays the Merlin back in 740 AD. Balthazar then gave Dave the Merlin’s ring after he found out that Dave is the Prime Merlinian. Soon after this, Horvath has escaped from the magical prison called grimlock where Morgana and all her followers were also trapped by Balthazar. Luckily, after the magical fight between Balthazar and Horvath, both of them ended up trapped in an urn.

Ten years after, Dave meets Becky again and he’s hoping that this is the second chance for him to tell and show his feelings for her. However, both Balthazar and Horvath were freed from the urn and separately they search for Dave. Dave has to decide then on whether he would choose to live as a normal human being fighting for his love for Becky or he would help to defeat evil forces through the sorcerer’s help. Balthazar then manages to convince Dave to be his apprentice while keeping the grimlock away from Horvath.

Among the entire movie cast, only Nicholas Cage who played Balthazar has proven his acting skills well. Nicholas Cage surely did extraordinarily well on portraying the character which was given to him. If it wasn’t Cage who played the role maybe the movie will earn only bad criticisms basing on their storyline and visual effects. Even the directors have failed to bring out the best in the movie.

The movie may be magical and could catch the children’s attention but for those who love to watch a movie with great storyline this movie is not for you. The story moves too fast and it seemed like they forced to fit in the whole story for a very short time.  Though it was not the most terrible movie I seen overall, it was boring and I almost have slept on my seat while watching The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. I would suggest you watch this movie on cable instead of wasting your money going on theaters.
