Chelsea Clinton Gets Married In A Hush Hush Ceremony

In a private ceremony in an exclusive estate along the Hudson River, Chelsea Clinton, former President Bill Clinton and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s only child married her long time boyfriend, Marc Mezvinsky on Saturday July 31, 2010.

After weeks of mystery and buildup that saw a number of celebrity watchers flocking to the small village of Rhinebeck to witness the upcoming wedding. The Clinton’s released the following press statement:

“Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends,” the Clintons said. “We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day.”

Perhaps wishing for her wedding to be as private as possible, Ms. Clinton kept much of the details of the wedding private. Shopkeepers, vendors, inn keepers and caterers were sworn to secrecy. Even the designer of her gown wasn’t revealed until the last minute.

Only about 400 guests were expected to be present at the wedding.  It might be noted that the privacy of the wedding has been preserved by restricting airspace over the estate until 3:30 Sunday.  Roads to the estate were blocked off, although a bottle of wine was provided for the inconvenienced neighbors as a complimentary gift.

The couple’s guest list relatively remained celebrity free. Although, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, fashion designer Vera Wang, who actually designed Chelsea’s wedding gown, was present for the ceremony.  Also spotted in Rhinebeck was Madeleine Albright, who was Bill Clinton’s US secretary of state during his 2nd term as president.

Astor Courts, is actually a very private estate found along the Hudson River.  It was built by John Jacob Astor IV over a century ago, it supposed to be a Beaux Arts Fashion playground for him.  The estate has a beautiful and commanding view of the Hudson River that was once said to inspire Hudson River School painters and also boasts of a 50 acres of land, that serves as a buffer space from many a prying eyes.

Marc Mezvinsky is actually the son of former US Representatives Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky of Pennsylvania and Ed Mezvinsky of Iowa, long time friends of the Clintons.  Marc and Chelsea has been friends during their teenage years and they have both attended  Stanford University.  The couple lives in New York where Marc Mezvinsky worked before as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and is now with G3 Capital, a Manhattan Hedge Fund, while Chelsea just recently completed her Masterals in public health at the Maliman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

Chelsea and Marc started dating in 2005, they announced their engagement in late 2009. The couple hoped that their wedding be a really private affair and they succeeded up to a certain degree that is.
